2025 TERMS & CONDITIONS

fees & payment
  1. A non-refundable one-time registration fee of $50 is to be made upon registration for new enrolments.

  2. ​A deposit of $100 will be collected upon registration for regular programmes, and is refundable provided that all the conditions are fulfilled:

    • One calendar month's written notice of withdrawal is given to The Geography Academy ("TGA"). In the event that less than one calendar month notice is given, TGA shall not be obliged to return any part of the deposit;

    • There are no other outstanding payments. In the event that there are outstanding payments, the deposit will be used to offset the outstanding liability before the balance of deposit (if any) may be refunded;

    • The client was not terminated in accordance to other clauses.

    • For the avoidance of doubt, no deposit is payable for holiday programmes or special programmes.

  3. Payment of fees must be paid in full prior to the start of every month. Payment can be made via bank transfer or PayNow.

  4. Payment of fees are strictly non-refundable and non-transferrable. For the avoidance of doubt, TGA shall be under no obligation to refund any fees paid in the event that a decision is made to withdraw at any time before or after the commencement of each month, holiday programme or special programme.

  5. TGA reserves the right not to accept the student and/or to cancel or terminate any classes for which payment has not been made by the prescribed due date, and offer the student’s slot in such classes to other students without further notice to the student or parent.

  6. ​TGA reserves the right to review lesson fees from time to time, and increase or decrease the fees as TGA, in its sole discretion, deems fit.

classes & attendance
  1. TGA reserves the right to provide replacement lessons in the following scenarios:

    • With respect to 1-1 lessons, all classes will be terminated at the 15-minute mark should the student fail to attend by then. The lesson will be considered unattended, and hence strictly non-refundable.

    • With respect to group lessons, requests made for replacement classes within the week are subjected to availability. Should there be no available class, an online recording of the lesson will be provided for the student's independent review.

    • With respect to the holiday/special programmes, requests made for replacement classes will be decided on a case-by-case basis subject to availability.​

  2. Replacement lessons for group classes are scheduled within the week and are subjected to availability. Please note that class sizes will increase, but not exceeding 8 students, due to replacement students.

  3. Should there be no available class within the week, an online recording of the missed lesson will be shared for the student's independent review. Student is to attempt the worksheet in accordance to the recorded lesson, and submit the work the following lesson. Full markings will be provided by the teacher as feedback.

  4. Requests made for rescheduling 1-1 classes will be decided on a case-by-case basis subject to availability, provided that all the conditions are fulfilled:

    • 3 calendar day's written request of rescheduling is given to TGA. In the event that less than 3 calendar day's request is given, TGA shall not be obliged to reschedule the lesson at its discretion, and the lesson will be considered as unattended and strictly non-refundable.​

    • For avoidance of doubt, the rescheduled lesson must be conducted in the same calendar month.

    • ​In the event of an unsuccessful rescheduling attempt arising from TGA's availabilities, a full refund for the lesson will be processed.

  5. TGA reserves the right to do any or all of the following, at its own discretion, when deemed necessary:

    • Cancel any class due to unforeseen circumstances during the term. Replacement classes or a video recording will be arranged should classes be cancelled.

    • Make changes to the conduct of classes, including but not limited to, substituting or changing the teachers, rescheduling classes, and varying the manner in which classes are conducted without prior notice.

    • Amend or vary the contents of the classes, according to programme priorities and student needs.

    • Adhere to the stated lesson times according to the programme notwithstanding that the student is late. TGA tutors may, at their discretion, extend or shorten lessons up to 5 minutes depending on their availabilities and the lesson content.

  6. TGA will adhere to student needs to its best ability but does not guarantee that a student will be able to attend any particular class or timeslot or to receive classes from any particular staff. TGA reserves the right to place a student in an appropriate class depending on the availability of classes, class capacity and/or available staff.

  7. Fees for unattended lessons are strictly non-refundable. In the event that it is not possible to arrange a replacement class due to a lack of vacancies in other classes, a video recording of the lesson will be provided and the class fees for the class missed shall not be refunded or pro-rated. This clause shall apply notwithstanding that the student has valid reason(s) for missing the class. Valid reason(s) include, but are not limited to:

    • Sickness or medical leave

    • Family emergencies including death of a family member

Intellectual Property & Marketing Rights
  1. TGA owns all rights to all lessons and lesson materials, and shall not be shared, sold, copied, recorded, reproduced or disclosed by the client by any means or for any purpose without the express written consent of TGA.

  2. TGA reserves all rights to:

    • Own copyright to students' works created in conjunction with any of TGA’s staff and/or other students throughout the course. TGA may reproduce the work in a material form, publish and make an adaptation of the work for advertising or showcase purposes.

    • Use the student’s name, work, academic records, photographs, audio/visual recordings and other material for promotional and other purposes such as publicising TGA and its students’ accomplishments whether during the course of the student’s enrolment with TGA or thereafter, with consent from the student.

    • Use students' and parents' testimonials for advertising and marketing purposes.

  3. Any unauthorised use, sharing, sale, copying, recording, reproduction or disclosure of the lesson materials (or any part thereof) or TGA’s intellectual property rights, shall be valid grounds for the suspension or termination of a student.

communications
  1. TGA reserves the right, at its discretion, to suspend and/or terminate service to clients with immediate effect in the event that the client or student demonstrates behavior that is deemed detrimental to the safety and/or wellbeing of TGA's staff and/or other students. Such events include, but is not limited to:

    • Cause or threaten to cause injury to other students or staff;

    • Use threatening, abusive or insulting words or behavior towards other students or staff;

    • Harass or cause distress to other students or staff;

    • Persistently behave in a manner disruptive to lessons.

  2. TGA is under no obligation, to:

    • Respond to clients' communications outside of operating hours (2-8pm on weekdays and 9am-6pm on weekends);

    • Respond to phone calls from clients, or phone clients.
